The road passes Playa Bonita, a small harbor and beach which is popular in summer. Cerro Campanario, the Belltower Hill is where the bus will stop when returning. The view from the top of this hill, reached after a short chairlift ride, is the highlight of the trip. All the surrounding mountains, most of the 60 miles of the Nahuel Huapi Lake, the Llao Llao Hotel and some smaller lakes are all in sight. The Catedral Ski Village, at the base of the ski slopes and part of the city of Bariloche, as well as the airport out on the steppe, are encompassed from this spectacular 360 degree look-out. The tour continues toward St Eduard’s chapel to Llao Llao Hotel. It is after passing the hotel’s golf course that the Valdivian Rain Forest begins. This is a temperate rain forest, with vines canes and lush vegetation. The tour now continues through this thick beech forest surrounding the western Moreno Lake passing by the base of Lopez Mountain with the shear face of the Lopez fault. There will be a short stop further along the road for a breathtaking view high above the Moreno Lake on the Llao Llao Hotel, the Puerto Pañuelo Harbor, Victoria Island and smaller islands on the lake. The promenade is also of great interest to tourists, you can enjoy interesting views of Quetalmahue Gulf and its beautiful inlets as well as Lacuy Peninsula from it. Ancud is located at the northern tip of Grande Island and has a population of 23,854. It was founded on August 20th, 1768 by the Spanish brigadier Carlos Berenguer. It is currently the area of Chiloe most in contact with continental Chile. It is 1109 kilometers from Santiago and 30 kilometers from Puerto Montt. In front of its square are the Church and Bell tower of San Lucas, declared a National Monument. It occupies an extension of 100 kilometers in length by 80 of wide. The salt is product of the underground water outcrop that, saturated of salts, evaporates leaving scabs rich in salt and minerals. The rivers fed by Andean snows traverse the area allowing the creation of multiple oasis’s. This is the place where the “Atacameño” culture was developed. The air is extraordinarily dry here, which gives it a perfect transparency. The salt scab has been opened to leave space to small lagoons that are favorite habitat of aquatic birds, particularly Flamingoes, Taguas and Guallatas. The most important is the Chaxa lagoon. The Atacama saltlake is located in the centre of the most barren desert of the world. Salt fields and salt lakes are abundant in this place. It is well-known for its strong winds due to its proximity with the Pacific Ocean and the Andes mountains. We will continue our tour by the great Atacama saltflat, which has a surface of 12,000 km2 and of immense beauty. We will have the opportunity to admire the great variety of flamingoes and migratory birds that have found in the enormous salt their natural habitat; these birds provide a very peculiar atmosphere to the sector. Here we will be able to find a great amount of salt similar to ocean salt; this phenomenon has allowed diverse animals like reptiles, insects and birds live here. At the end of this trip we will admire a spectacular sunset, enjoying the silence and the peace of the salt before returning to the hotel. Overnight in San Pedro de Atacama.<br />
