Discover Peru’s most famous ancient trail with NuevoMundo
The Inca civilization were great builders with the ability to integrate the most astonishing network in the Old World, almost 22,000Km of Inca roadways, many of which are still in use today. Your adventure will take you into the mountains and valleys past villages where you will follow the ancient footsteps of the Incas towards Machu Picchu. You will enter into the Andean world where you will have the opportunity to enjoy the environment and different ecosystems reaching over 4,200m above sea level before you descend through the cloud forest surrounded by the wonderful bio diversity of flora and fauna as you enter the citadel of Machu Picchu.
Collection from hotel at 6.00am and transfer to the Sacred Valley and onto Ollantaytambo where you will stop approximately 45 minutes to collect porters and equipment. You will visit the surrounding area of the town called Ollantaytambo, before making your way to kilometre 82, where you will begin your trek. Your pace will be an acclimatization rhythm and very soon you will stop at your first archaeological complex, Llactapata, at kilometre 88 (2,550m above sea level). You will have 30 minutes to visit this archaeological complex, before continuing your walk to Wayllbamba where you will camp.
After breakfast you will begin your walk through the Valley of Huayllabamba. On your journey you will be able to observe the nature and the ecological change of the area until you arrive to (Yunaca Chipana) Huayllabmba from where you will climb to Llulluchapampa (3,750 m above sea level). From this point you will be able to appreciate the Valley of Huayanay and the first step Warmiwaסusca (4,200m above sea level) and camp in the sector of Pacaymayo.
After breakfast you will ascend to Runkurakay (3,860m above sea level). Contrary to the previous days, your walk will be two hours more and so we will be able to visit another small complex, Sayacmarca and appreciate the valleys and snow-capped mountains. Further on you will stop to visit the complex of Phuyupatamarca, and descend 3 kilometres until you arrive to a place called Winawayna where you will visit its complex. Finally at Intipata you will camp.
After an early morning breakfast, you will walk to Intipuncu called ‘Door of Sun’ where you will be able to observe the impressive Lost City of MachuPicchu, walk to the Sanctuary and have a guided tour.
At a suitable hour you will walk down to the station and take the return train to Cusco. Reception and transfer to your hotel.
