Like many other Latin American capital cities, Quito is dramatically located in the heart of the mighty Andes. There is no better way to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city than with a day tour through the old colonial quarter. Stroll through the cobbled streets of Guápulo and visit the stunning Basílica del Voto Nacional with its fine views over Quito. Another possibility is the recently inaugurated cable car or teleférico, which affords fantastic views over the city and surrounding countryside complete with towering volcanoes and forested slopes.

A visit to the Museo del Banco Central is a must with its magnificent ancient ceramics and beautiful pre-Columbian gold artifact from over 5,000 years of Ecuadorian heritage. Quito is also the best place in the country to sample the hearty local cuisine after a busy day of sightseeing. The city is a wonderful introduction to a country packed with amazing sights and warm, hospitable people.
