Whether you came to Costa Rica in search of sea turtles, rainforests or volcanoes, it can all be done along the eastern Pacific edge of the country. Corcovado National Park was described by National Geographic as “the most biologically intense place on Earth”, and there are plenty of lesser-known reserves also within reach. In many ways giving a taste of everything Costa Rica has to offer, the Pacific Coast is rightfully one of the country’s most popular areas.

  • Costa Rica’s largest national park, Corcovado is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth with over 100,000 acres of rainforest and swampland.
  • Although still a mystery, the Finca 6 archeological site offers a glimpse into what Costa Rican life was like before Christopher Columbus landed.
  • With sand formed from crushed sea shells, Playa Conchal is a prime example of a Pacific beach, with sea turtles regularly spotted closeby.
  • Often overlooked for its famous neighbours, Piedras Blancas National Park has hundreds of exotic animal species in a massive rainforest reserve.
  • Known for having some of the longest waves in the world, Pavones in the southern end of the coast is an ideal spot to perfect the art of surfing.

best time to visit

January - April

Rains should be less frequent this time of year so the road conditions will be better. Tamarindo in particular usually has consistent daytime temperatures between 25-30°C, although be warned certain areas close during the rainy season.
